Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. – Kofi Annan
Thanks to a very exciting grant awarded by Rotary International, we have been focused on supporting the community’s efforts to improve and increase literacy in Fondo Negro. We have been blessed with the help in these efforts by a young woman named Priscilla from Nicaragua. Priscilla is trained in teaching literacy and supporting teachers in their efforts. She has been in Fondo Negro since March 4th and will continue to be there until April 4th.
Nine teachers from 1st to 3rd grades have worked with her to learn new techniques and ways to inspire the students. We have been able to instruct them with new curriculum and provide materials which will supplement what is already given to them by the government for years to come. The teachers have been enthusiastic, inviting Priscilla into their classrooms to allow her to watch and give pointers as well as taking the time outside of class to learn and be inspired.
We are so thankful for the help Priscilla has given the community and her willingness to give of her time and step away from her life for a month. She’s a rockstar!
Come learn more about these kids and support the mission!
